Skittles not tennis brought out the competitive edge of members of all ages and their families who got together at The Farmers' Arms, Guiting Power for the club's first social evening in a while on Friday 6 November. The evening was a resounding hit and attracted a good turnout - thank you to Mary and Roland Greenhill for suggesting and organising the event.
Pam Parton and Bob Broadbent were the winners of the team skittles with the highest scores among the ladies and gents players respectively, while Gwyneth Simmons won the knockout competition with Michael Cronk coming a very close second in an exciting final to knock down the last skittle standing.
In the break for supper - which was very good and promptly served - we presented the trophies for the club's annual summer tournament, which is open to all adult and older junior members. This year, for the first time, trophies were not awarded at the club on Finals Day - which is why we needed a different date and venue for the presentation. To encourage more players to enter the tournament, a slightly new format was introduced to allow final matches to be scheduled at different times if some of the players were away on the designated Finals Day. This worked well, allowoing more players to enter and most of the final matches were still held on Finals Day which was a lovely sunny day and well supported by friends and families.
