COVID-19 Latest - May 13

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Sunday evening (10 May) some easing of the lockdown measures have allowed us to open our courts with a certain number of restrictions.

In line with Lawn Tennis Association advice there are certain precautions we must take.  These are as follows:

  • In order to play, you must book a court using the Club’s online booking system (this will facilitate contact tracing, should this be necessary. All members should have access to the booking system. Please contact us if you do not.

  • The maximum number of people permitted on one court is two, unless they are from the same household.  This means that you can play singles against someone from a different household, but you can only play doubles with people from your own household.

  • The clubhouse is out of bounds except to get the key to open the courts and, if necessary, to access the first aid box.  Your existing keys for the clubhouse will still work.

  • Please bring hand-sanitiser with you and use it before and after you play.  As a fall-back, anti-bacterial hand-wash and/or hand sanitiser will be provided near the key in the clubhouse.

  • The toilet, too, is out of bounds because of the hygiene risk (the Club is not in a position to provide hot running water and frequent cleaning which its use would entail).

  • The nets have been set at the right height and should not be adjusted (to avoid handling the measuring poll and winders).

  • Please bring your own tennis balls as these will not be provided by the Club.

  • Please maintain social distancing at all times, including when other players are entering or leaving the clubhouse or courts.

  • Please read (and look out for changes to) the Lawn Tennis Association ‘Guidance for Tennis Players’ at  This provides a range of important advice, including the following:

    • Take hand sanitiser with you.

    • Take all your own equipment (do not share equipment such as rackets, grips, hats and towels).

    • Only take the minimum amount of equipment with you that you need to play.

    • Clean and wipe down your equipment, including racquets and water bottles, before and after use.

    • Bring a full water bottle, and do not share food or drink with others.

    • Bring your own tennis balls that are clearly marked (e.g. with your initials).

    • Ensure you take all your belongings with you at the end of the session and do not leave anything on court.

Just three other points:

  • Club-nights remain suspended for the time being.

  • The re-opening of the courts will allow the resumption of coaching but at this stage only on a one-to-one basis.  James Hilltout will contact relevant individuals (or, alternatively, feel free to contact him).

  • Membership renewals have been put on hold for the time being so at the moment your existing membership remains valid.

We will keep this page updated as and when COVID-19 related measures change.
